Restaurant
Commercial Interior Design
Melbourne
Jonathan Tabensky
Italian warmth interpreted with contemporary Melbourne confidence — expressive, generous and made for gathering.
The brief
Translate the generous spirit of an Italian pizzeria into a contemporary Melbourne venue, with the wood-fired oven central to the experience.
The challenge
The design needed to balance kitchen and counter operations with an inviting dining atmosphere and a recognisable identity of its own.
Design response
Bella Mamma pairs the convivial spirit of an Italian pizzeria with a crisp contemporary edge. The interior uses colour, tactile finishes and an open sense of theatre to make the dining experience feel immediate and generous.
Familiar cues are refined rather than replicated. The result feels spirited and recognisable while giving the venue a confident identity of its own within Melbourne's hospitality landscape.
Outcome
A warm, energetic restaurant where the curved counter, patterned tile and visible oven turn food preparation into part of the guest experience.
